    Description

Up for auction is one original and rare antique 1938-40 Austrian automotive advertising poster brochure of iconic car model Steyr type 50. There are two faces to this advertising sheet for the Steyr Type 50. It is a handy brochure when folded, and also a decorative, informative poster.
On the poster Steyr Type 50 graphically and elegantly combined with the Steyr logo. When unfolded, the poster provides all the necessary technical details. On both sides, it showed in both images and text what an inexpensive and beautiful car with ‘streamlined body work’ that readers were dealing with - ideal ‘for work, travel, sport and health’. In this period of economic development, the producers wanted to address the largest possible number of new customer groups. The practical benefits – easy to climb in and out, clean accommodation of the spare wheel - were aimed primarily at female customers. The spacious and comfortable interior, and the sturdy construction and cross-country mobility of the Steyr Type 50 were also extolled. The ‘Steyr Baby’ was also suitable for Austria's mountain roads, and this was tested and demonstrated numerous times, even on the Großglockner high Alpine road. The poster originate from a private collection in Vienna.
The designer at the Steyr works was Karl Jenschke (1899 - 1969), who was therefore also called the ‘father’ of the Steyr Baby.  The Steyr Type 50 was the first car made by the Steyr factory in assembly-line production. The Steyr works merged in 1934 to become ‘Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG’. The car was presented at the International Automobile Exhibition in Berlin in February 1936 and shown to the public shortly before the Vienna spring trade fair at the start of March. Five thousand models left the production line by December 1937. Together with the Steyr Type 55, with its slightly increased engine power and modified interior, which was sold from February 1938, 13,000 Steyr Baby cars entered the market by 1940.
